Edinburgh Cityscapes by Night

Whilst engaged in a daunder through the capitol city by night a few sights were coaxing me to push my face into the back of my camera is search of a memorable image, or two. The evening was just setting in cold and the colours in the sky made it appear as if the sun's heat was setting far away with little in the way of a guarantee to return another day. The bright lights and city bustle were a growing counter action to the end of the day and the urban activity suggested that this was a positive beginning of a night full of promising potential.

These pictures were taken with a Canon EOS 550D camera and a Canon 18-55 mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens. The combination of these two lightweight photographic tools produces some great results. This compact DSLR camera and lens with image stabilisation make for great lowlight shooting. When shooting on the move in town the accessibility of a camera not only makes opportunities through quick access, but through usability. When a camera can be used with speed and ease there is more chance that it will be used and that it will be used more often so generating some better and some different results. Modern cameras make some picture taking more easy and that ease not only helps in the cold in winter in Edinburgh, but it allows for many more images to be created that would otherwise have been overlooked. Sometimes the convenience of digital photography gives us much more scope for picture making and those pictures can show us more of our world and open up new photographic experiences for us to explore.

The compact size of this unit is a major attraction as are the two USB charging ports. So far I have had no complaints and so need to make a claim on the reassuringly impressive warranty. This unit fits in perfectly and works superbly well. If you need up to, but not more than six 13A sockets and two USB sockets then this might fill your needs as well as it fit mine.

The pictures were taken quickly with two softboxes. The Canon EF 50mm f/2.5 Compact Macro lens is a great small lens that delivers brilliant results. As always light can be the key to get the best results from any lens.

SANDISK 16GB Cruzer Edge USB Memory Stick
