Purged Ritualistic - Edinburgh Festival Fringe Fancies 2010

With a steady hand and a slow shutter speed the action of Purged Ritualistic on the Royal Mile was allowed to feature in these still pictures. A diffused flash was used to still the action even as the slow shutter speed allowed it to flow in the exposure. The ice and fire approach to picture making can freeze a part of the action whilst the motion blur seems to hot melt other aspects of the image. The method of making an image can work to reveal the subject. When shooting action shots it is good involve action in the photographic method. Using fast photographic flash light and intentional camera movement to capture action makes the images display the dual character of sharp clarity and blurred movement. Taking pictures like this during the Edinburgh Festival is complex and engaging and so much fun.
